Take a Vacation to Ilocos Sur on the Island of Luzon

Ilocos Sur is a great place for a vacation. Vigan is a city located here and it is a historic place with 16th century Spanish houses and many other Spanish style buildings. You can tour the city in a horse drawn carriage called a caritelo. The ride is great. You can visit the Vigan Cathedral which is one of the oldest churches in the Philippines.

Ilocos Sur is located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines.  It is one of the most beautiful and historic areas in the Philippines.  Many people think the Philippines are a bunch of underdeveloped islands but they are very modern in some areas.

Vigan is a city located in Ilocos Sur and it is a historic place with 16th century Spanish houses, religious structures and many historical landmarks and the city is very popular with the tourists.   Vigen is the last colonial town in the Philippines.

You must take a caritelo tour of Vigan, as it is a fabulous way to see the historic sites of the city.  A caritelo is a horse drawn carriage and the experience is great.

You must visit the University of Northern Philippines.  It is one of the oldest universities in the Philippines.  When you visit the universities, you will find vendors outside the gate selling different food delicacies that are authentic and very good.

You must visit the Banaoang Bridge and from the top of the bridge, you can see all of the Santa River.  The water in the river comes down from the mountains into the river and then it flows out to the Pacific Ocean.  Many people go to the Santa River to camp.

One of the oldest churches in Vigan is the Vigan Cathedral.  During the Spanish times, the Spaniards chose Vigan as the center for their government.  They called it the Villa Hernandina.  The cathedras has survived many earthquakes and it is still a beautiful place.

Ilocos Sur is the home of “Abel Iloco” which is hand-woven blankets, towels, bathrobes, purses, handbags, placemats, napkins and curtains.  Women from Santa or Santiago do the weaving.  The designs are handed down from generation to generation and they are unique.  The blankets are so well made they will last forever.  You must check out these women and their weaving.

You can hang out at the Plaza Burgos.  You can have a bowl of delicious soup at the Sinanglawan Place.  This is one of the oldest plazas in Vigan.

You can go on a fun shopping trip in Vigan, as there are so many shops to check out.  There are antiques, wooden pipes and tobacco.  There is food and a choice of native delicacies.  You will find beautiful native artwork here.

You can visit Baluarte, which is an area of hills and mountains.  You children can ride in a small horse carriage.  They will find many things to do and see.

The Vigan Colonial Houses are beautiful and are a must see on your trip to Vigan.  The colonial Houses of Vigan are famous all over the world.  The streets in Vigan are made of Cobblestones, which are unique.

Ilocos Sur is a great place for a vacation and there is something here for everyone.
